I find Judas fascinating.

  1. Jesus kept Judas in his inner circle, even though he knew he would betray him. Why?
  2. Judas had been with Jesus for years, and then he deliberately chose to betray him. Why? (He clearly immediately regrets it.)

Here is a guess. Jesus associated with many people, including sinners and tax collectors and religious leaders with whom he disagreed. Therefore he even associated with the one who would betray him.
